- Windows XP (service pack 3), Vista (32/64 bit), Windows 7 (32/64 bit), Windows 8 (32/64 bit), and Windows 10 (32/64 bit)
- Pentium 450Mhz or faster
- Hard disk with 180MB available
- 256 MB RAM
- CD-ROM drive required for installation (not for download installation)
- Internet connection required to search online databases
- EndNote files are compatible across Windows and Mac OS X platforms
- Endnote is Unicode compliant
- To use MSI installation, it is necessary to have the latest Windows updates installed.

- EndNote is available to all University of Otago staff and students
- Staff and students can use EndNote software on their home computers for University work only. They can only do so while they are University of Otago employees or students
- An annual licence for EndNote software is available through ITS. The licence period is 31 December to 30 December
